Tuesday 2 Mar 21 Bike ride to Black Meadow Landing
Tuesday 2 Mar 21
I woke up at 8:30 and after letting the dogs out I made oats for breakfast with toast, grapefruit and coffee.
After cleaning up I got on Highway 95 heading south for Yuma. I decided to check out Baker Dam which was only half a mile of the highway. I took a side road that went up a hill to an overlook. While I was there I noticed a restroom down by the lake. I grabbed Wiggin and we hiked further down the same road to the restroom. There were some covered stations there in the show for fishing. I talked to a couple of guys fishing and they said they hadn't had a bite all morning. After I went to the restroom Wiggin and I hiked back to the RT. I decided to unload the motorcycle and ride it across the dam. There was a sign saying no RVs on the dam but I think the RT which is built on a one ton Chevy van would have been okay. I thought about bringing Wiggin because he really likes to ride on the bike but decided not to and tied him and Pete outside to the back of the RT. I put their water out and put down a blanket for them to lay on. After I was across the dam I saw a sign to Black Meadow Landing and I decided to check it out. It was 10 miles there but a nice ride. I came across a couple of wild burros along the way.
The Landing was a resort right on the lake. There was a gas station, general store and a diner. It was lunch time so I ordered a burrito and a beer at the diner. I ate outside on the patio and it was very pleasant. After lunch I walked over to some prefab mini homes. I talked to a man, John and his wife Joan that were staying for the winter. They asked me if I would like to see inside and so I checked it out. For $800 a month it was darn nice. They also have kitchenettes for $650 a month.
After checking out the accommodations I got back on the bike and rode around the RV park. I came across a man riding a 97 Yamaha TW200 exactly like mine. He said that 97 was the first year they had electric start. His name was Chris and he said he bought his bike new.
After talking to Chris a bit I got back on the road to the RT. Once there I loaded the bike and secured everything and got back on the road and drove to the town of Parker. There was a Wal-Mart there so I went in and bought some water. I had decided to see if I could use the submersible pump to get water into the evaporative cooler but needed a fitting. I looked for one in the store but they didn't have one. I decided to use the fitting that was currently connected to the RT main water system. I had a plastic container with an opening large enough to put the pump through and filled it with water. I plugged the pump in and sure enough it worked.
Later I found some other fittings in my spare parts and was able to connect the ¼ circle sprinkler head to the pump as well. I heated up some water in my largest pan and took a nice shower. It worked real well.
I had a decent connection to T-Mobile with my Samsung S8 so I used the Roku to stream the movie Vanilla Sky on the Roku channel. I made some crackers with slices of summer sausage and cheese to snack on while I watched the movie.
After the movie I called it a night.
